How to look more natural on camera

Hi, Reader!

A couple of weeks ago, I asked my followers on Instagram to ask me anything about brand photography, and one question stood out: How do I take more candid shots that don’t all feel posed?

I bet you've wondered this, too! Here are 4 quick tips for taking more natural-looking photos.

1. Show Your Process

Plan shots that show you doing what you do best. Having props gives your hands something to do, and you’ll feel more confident doing something you love. Process shots offer so much variety. You can look at the camera, focus on your work, or mix it up. These are my favorites because they’re super effective for marketing, too!

2. Get Moving

Think about adding movement by walking, gesturing, or shifting positions slightly in between shots. This will help you feel less stiff on camera and make your shots more dynamic!

3. Pose Naturally

I know what you’re thinking: there’s no way! But trust me: take a deep breath, roll your shoulders back, and think happy thoughts. It works! Practicing posing is also a great way to build muscle memory so you don't have to "think" so much in front of the camera.

4. Fake Laugh

No, really! Give a big fake laugh and it'll become the most natural-looking expression. Promise!

Try these in your next photoshoot or when you're creating DIY content and let me know what works for you!
